NASA.gov Web Design & Development

NASA.gov

Our Emberly team members are proud to have been a part of one of our most ambitious projects, the new NASA.gov website. Winner of 6 Webby awards, the NASA project was a multi-year project in collaboration with a variety of teams, including the internal NASA team and external partners. A project massive in scope, the NASA Web Modernization project consolidated over 100 NASA web properties into a consistent tech stack and web architecture. The Emberly team members were in charge of core web development, creating the interface by which content editors would build pages and write articles. The project was built in Gutenberg blocks, a new editing experience within the Wordpress CMS that was under active development during the beginning of the NASA project. Our team members navigated the difficult waters of this emerging technology, avoiding reliance on developmental features that would have spelled doom at this project scale. Additionally, our team members collaborated with the team to manage SEO considerations, given the huge changes in site structure and the migration of over a hundred other websites into the main NASA site. The content editing interface created by our team was loved by content editors, who found both freedom and guidance in the new interface. We built features that were developmentally complex but led to a simple content editor experience, such as custom-coded image focal pickers, block templates, and more.
