The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance is a 501(c)(3) Michigan Non-profit Corporation, working as a branch of Michigan Works!, that administers various human services programs in Monroe County and out-Wayne County. SEMCA is governed by two volunteer boards that fulfill specific functions of the organization: the Workforce Development Board and the Southeast Governmental Alliance (SEGA).
The SEMCA website was a dramatic overhaul for an organization with a long history. Developing the new SEMCA brand meant, for us, focusing on the people who count on SEMCA. Our use of imagery, navigation, and accessibility was driven by a commitment to serve.
The new SEMCA website includes a navigational hierarchy that is built into templates in the content management system. This allows SEMCA admins to easily add new pages, update menus, and keep everything consistent. We’ve built out different components of the SEMCA site into post types, such as the American Job Centers, so SEMCA admins can easily add or edit each location.
American Job Centers can be searched by ZIP code within a radius, which we achieved by building a connection to the Google Maps API. Additionally, functionality includes an event calendar with registration, and parallax scrolling imagery to capture the attention of the audience.
